Apex, NC (February 2008) - Today, GO MOM!® INC shares its tips for helping busy Moms choose a greener life, beginning with their schedule. "2008 is truly the year when green living becomes a way of life, not just a trend" states Molly Gold, Founder of GO MOM! INC. "Mothers hold a powerful position to make this global transition not only through their product choices but in their every day routines. The key for today's busy Moms is to make Green as simple as can be." How can she do that? Choose these easy tricks and watch your efforts add up to a greener world you can be proud to be a part of, starting in your own backyard:

  • Schedule: We all know that our planner is the true tale of how busy and organized (or not) our days have become. Its time to take a new look at your planner to see where you can make changes that not only save you time, but help you go green as well. Consider with your time on the road. Look to pare down any unnecessary car trips to the same location on multiple days, either through car pooling or a simple consolidation of activities by day. Identify pockets of time when you are out that you can squeeze in few errands while you wait on your family. Better yet, see when you can walk from point A to point B during your wait, not only getting the job done but keeping your exercise equal to your task. How can you tell if your gas consumption really makes a difference? Visit www.travelmatters.org to measure how much greenhouse gas you generate while out and about and you'll be amazed at how many trees it takes to replace those "must do" errands.

  • Organize: Buying green is not only becoming mainstream but more affordable as well. Wal-Mart is driving the demand for sustainable products first in packaging, subjecting vendors to a scorecard system that rates progress towards sustainable materials against that of each of their competitors. Talk about pressure! With spring cleaning right around the corner, choose now to organize green. Take a good luck at your cleaning supplies and make a list of items you use often. On your weekly trip to your favorite store, check the aisles and you'll be amazed at how many product lines have appeared just since the first of the year. From plant based laundry detergent to an entire line of eco-friendly Clorox products you can wipe up with paper products made from recycled materials without bleach, cleaning green has never been easier and more affordable. Save money by comparing prices between green brands and treat your conversion like feeding your children new foods. Choose one at a time until you find the products that work best for you.

  • Grow: One of my favorite phrases is grow where you are planted. And plant we must if we want to help our planet achieve environmental balance. With severe drought compromising much of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern states, it doesn't make sense to plant when you have limited access to water. But there are two very simple steps you can take that will have a huge impact on your yard and your pocketbook. Consider that the U.S. Geological Society has found that approximately 30% of the 26 billion gallons of water used daily is put towards outdoor use. No wonder the grass is always greener! To cut that back, plant water wise landscapes with greenery that is drought resistant. Collecting rainwater in barrels is your second step, offering an inexpensive approach that can yield big results by simply redirecting downspouts to the desired location. Use this water for any hand watering, such as flower beds or house plants, and you'll never go back to the faucet again.
