Pay it Forward with Procter & Gamble

Today I want to talk with you about how to pay it forward with Procter & Gamble.  Part of an ongoing series this holiday season with a variety of brands, I want to help you focus outside of yourself and family and put your smart savings to good use to benefit others in your community.

I had the pleasure of meeting the Procter & Gamble Team and a variety of PR and Brand managers when I visited the P&G home Booth at BlogHer ’11 this past August.  Literally a house with every room you can imagine, Procter & Gamble put on a brilliant display of every single brand they had to offer.

After attending the booth I received at home a box full of Procter & Gamble products which was a delight for these reasons.

1.  When I opened the box, I could see that almost every brand included was a brand that I had interacted with in one way or another all on my own ~ we already use these products!

2.  I had a few new items to check out like the wonderful Downy Unstopables which makes your laundry smell simply delicious.  Especially at the holidays, its great to have that lingering scent and softness in your linens and towel for all your guests.

3.  I realized that by having all this together with my P&G Manufacturer Coupons by mail and P&G Brand Saver insert, I had an opportunity.

At this most important time of year, you have that same opportunity to work together with what’s on sale at your store, local drugstore, and what you can use with coupons to make a difference in the local charities in your communities.  Think women’s shelters, homeless shelters, and even supporting the charities behind the scenes. They can use paper towels, they can use cleaning supplies.  Something as simple as feminine hygiene or a razor is a luxury to someone in crisis. Who knew that could be such a simple comfort that could make a difference in someone’s lives?

So I challenge you as we move into the thick of it to think every week as you are working your coupons for your own savings, how can you make those coupons and family friendly brands work for someone you’ll never know?  Because after all, its not about you.  Let me know what you are doing this holiday season to take care of others in our community and to support your charities when they need you most in life beyond the food can donation. I’d love to hear about it!

My personal philosophy regarding Conference Swag:  I am unaffected by Conference Swag.  I attend conferences to learn and would prefer to see a brand donate its marketing dollars to a cause I love than give me something to recycle before I leave the meeting facility at all. Maybe its my years as a professional conference and trade show manager that showed me the tremendous waste and hoarding that occurs all in the name of brand promotion.  I am extremely selective and commend Procter & Gamble for making it so easy to interact with their products post conference, which is how brand loyalty is built.  The company owns almost every personal care brand you can think of…so this is easy.  But more importantly, it made it extremely obvious to me that I could share.

I received the items earlier this fall and have been waiting for the right time to share my message of how you can Pay it Forward with a family friendly brand like Procter & Gamble. All year long they offer great coupons partnered with retail sales at grocery, drug, and big box stores to make it easy for you to gather items dedicated for giving as you go.  Having this box of items at this time of year to share with those who truly need it is an honor.

Disclosure:  I was not asked to post about the products I received from my visit to the P&G Home Booth and this is not a sponsored post.  Pay it Forward with Procter & Gamble simply sounded like a good title =) With so many favorite brands in my hands, I couldn’t help but think how much those truly in need would benefit from my paying it forward.  My choice to donate the items and my opinions are entirely my own.  I truly hope this helps you realize that when it comes to donations, while food matters, personal care items are in very high need and can make a tremendous difference in preserving dignity at a difficult time.  Thank you!

From time to time, I use yarn that I have leftover from other projects, to knit hats and scarves that I donate to our local Survival Center. It’s a win-win! I get to knit, which I love to do, and someone in need gets an item to help keep them warm.
