Last summer I had the incredible opportunity to join the incredible team at Build-A-Bear Workshop at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The trip was arranged as a service project for the 2012 Huggable Heroes to come to St. Jude’s and support the staff as they hosted Sibling Day.

Engaged to visit with a handful of Moms of Huggable Heroes to learn more about what it’s like to raise these incredible kids, I was completely unprepared for how emotional this day would be. The Huggable Heroes spent the day helping families of patients who were fighting for their lives celebrate the siblings, giving them a very special day all their own where they are the star.

We were blessed to receive a tour of the key areas of St. Jude’s that the credentialed visitors are allowed to visit. The facility is staffed with so many great minds its truly exciting to realize that the laboratories on site are both getting closer to and discovering cures literally every single day.

I was most struck with the overwhelming sense of positive thinking that prevailed with every staff member and we encountered. Ready with a smile and truly, an undeniable belief in the miraculous cure and clearly a faith in all things unseen, the energy of St. Jude’s is unlike any other place I’ve been. Except World Bear Headquarters.

You could not find two better suited organizations to work together for social good and in this case, this day was designed to bring some of the brightest young philanthropic minds out there to give a helping hand to kids who have a sibling suffering so much so that St. Jude’s is where their family has turned. It takes a special child to pursue a life in philanthropy and my job was to find out just exactly what raising a Buid-A-Bear Workshop Huggable Hero is like. Here is what three very special Moms had to say…

Supporting your child’s strengths…

How to balance it all…

How siblings can work together for social good…

Do you know a child who is a budding philanthropist, doing incredible things to help those in need?  The application window for 2013 Huggable Heroes nominations ends on Thursday, February 28, 2013.  Take a minute and visit the site to nominate the special young person in your world ~ it might the the tipping point in their future and in the lives of all they will someday touch.

Thanks so much for stopping by ~ we’ll see you next time!
