Tips for Stress Free December Holidays

Post

Show me a busy Mom who wouldn’t love the promise of family focused and stress free December holidays all season long? First shared in conjunction with a holiday feature in the December 2009 issue of Southern Living Magazine, I love this post for the most basic tips to help you stay focused during the holiday season. As you can tell, they are straight from my own home and something we’ve just always done. Enjoy!

Today I want to share ideas for how you can stay on track and have a wonderful holiday season. Two of my favorite tips for stress free December holidays are close to my heart and  I know won’t steer you wrong.

1. Create a Mom Map: What do I mean by that? This wonderful calendar right here is the guide to my busy family’s schedule this holiday season. In this wall calendar showing me the entire month, I have the opportunity to color code by person and I also have the opportunity to identify when we might have weekends that are to many things scheduled. and how. We can make sure to include the events that are most important to us like caroling with our neighbors or going ice skating. All of those special holiday traditions we don’t want to forget.

2. Choose 3 words that define your reason. Sit down together as a group and talk it through. For our family we chose family, joy, and peace. These 3 words signify the holidays to us so when we are coming home in and out of our home each busy day we will have that visual reminder of what the holidays mean for us. Hopefully that will make it easier for us to better discern how to spend our time, what invitations we say yes and no to, and what we should be most mindful of as we enjoy all the blessings the season has to offer.

Staying focused is key when there are so many distractions pulling at your family time.  I hope you find these tips helpful as you consider how schedule the best holiday season possible for your busy family. Tell me…
