Winter is here and I find myself craving color and clarity in everything I do. I make it a point to wear bright colors (even if I have to wear a sweater or coat) and I love to pick up fresh flowers every now and again to give my home that special touch. This week’s Willow House Wednesday is all about organizing with glass. January’s Glorious Glass Sale makes it easy to see why glass gives you a fresh perspective and I’m all about finding a practical application for every item you have in your home. Here are just a few ideas to get you started as you work through your January home organization list.
1. Use Multiples: Breaking down a big group of items into a series of containers all holding the same item can introduce a design element to your everyday clutter. I use glasses like the Amelia Beaded Glass Trio to hold all my pens on my desktop giving me easy access and a burst of color in plain site. I love how it keeps them contained but not hidden.
2. Use Unique Shapes: Next time you bring home a bunch of flowers, consider using a low and long rectangle to display mini bunches all in a row. Non intrusive to your view or workspace, it adds just the right touch of fresh greenery and color. The Nautilus Rectangular Vase is beautiful at the edge of my desk, putting a border of beauty between me and the rest of the world.
3. Use Layers: Setting items on top of a glass tray or box keeps then in full view but lets you focus on the item and not the container. It also makes it easy to transport anything you might want to have mobile as you work throughout your home. The Dress-Me-Up Glass Platter is a perfect home for your favorite books, giving them just the right spot to rest in between your reading windows. You can change the ribbon at your whim and for longer stays, match it to the room it’s in.
Winter organizing begs for a fresh look. Don’t be afraid to put your items out in plain sight, using a variety of glass containers as your containers. You’ll be amazed at how this will naturally challenge you to keep your view clutter free. After all, that’s the goal isn’t it? Tell me…how do you organize with glass?
