Today we are talking about ways to get organized during a heat wave. Its been over 100 degrees for like 2 weeks straight in North Carolina. At a certain point, all the time spent in the pool to keep yourself cook wears thin and everyone just needs to be inside and cool off. So from my perspective, what better time to outsmart the chaos than during a heat wave because you are inside anyway. Here are the three places I suggest you focus on while you are at home because in the end, they will all give you a bonus of something else to do.
1. Arts and Crafts: Now is a great time to go through your kids arts and crafts center and make sure that everything that is old is gone, everything that needs to be refreshed is updated, and you’ll be amazed to see that your kids will discover something new that they didn’t know they already add. If there’s something you’d like to add in and you’d like to pick up an extra craft kit, you can always use those great coupons from national craft retailers picking items 40 or 50% off and if you find something already on sale you’ve got an afternoon of awesome arts and crafts ahead. Think Shrinky Dinks, think knitting, you name it, you can do it. This is just a great place to organize that is also fruitful offering something new for your kids to do.
2. The Playroom: Goes without saying that if you take some time to go through the playroom you will inevitably find something super fun that your children forgot they had. Take it one step further and bring out some toys that they played with when they were little. Maybe they don’t play with fires anymore but they would love to do a big Star Wars set. Even Thomas the Tank train you name it. If those are too young for your kids to get out and play, mixing it up with old toys and inviting a friend over, once you clean the playroom, with a refresh of those fun things they may have forgotten about can definitely take care of an afternoon or two with friends to make it work.
3. Kids Closets: Its never to early to go through your kids’ closets and think about back to school. Now is a great time to do this! They are stuck in the house, you need them to try on their clothes, and as they are growing it really is all about ownership. I just had one of my teenagers clean out his closet all on his own. He knows what fits, what’s too small, and its up to him now to go through that closet, go through those drawers, and let me know where his deficits are. If he doesn’t let me know, how am I going to know? That’s yourgoal. And to be quite honest we still have quite warm weather and if your kids are growing like weeds like mine are, coming down every morning a foot taller, I’m going to want make the most of these mid summer and end of summer sales coming up to be able to stock up on shorts and all the typical summer gear that we are going to need well into October as this heat wave continues.
So those are my three favorite places for you to focus on to get organized while there is a heat wave. And I’d love know….
How are you beating the heat this summer? What kinds of organization projects are you focused on?
Thanks so much for stopping by…we’ll see you next time!
