Christmas at Walt Disney World

Christmas at Walt Disney World

I have always wanted to experience Christmas at Walt Disney World. While I’m all for tradition and can’t imagine being anywhere but home on December 25th, I love all the sparkle the holidays bring and we know the Magic Kingdom is one place that must be simply magical all season long.  For the happiest place on earth, the holiday season has officially begun and there are countless special events at Walt Disney World you simply won’t want to miss.

In December 2012, I had the distinct honor of attending the New Fantasyland grand opening. It occurred to me that this wouldn’t be like other Disney trips because while, of course it was an amazing press opportunity, it was during the holiday season and that meant additional planning. A trip in November and December is truly unique because your choices will be sprinkled with seasonal events you can only visit at this time of year. Here are four annual special events for the holidays that we could not wait to attend!

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade

1. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party: By ticket only, its an evening event beginning about 4 and by 7:00 the park is only for MVMCP ticket holders. The park is transformed into a magical winter wonderland with a holiday themed parade, fireworks, and Wishes Light Show. There is an amazing transformation that involves snow, seeing all the characters in holiday attire, and it even includes hot cocoa!

2. Epcot Candlelight Procession: This happens in the Americas Gardens and is hosted by a celebrity who is backed up by an orchestra and choir. They recite the Christmas Story by Candlelight Procession in the spirit of holidays around the world. My family loves Epcot and we were in awe of the vocalist and the performance overall.

3. Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights: The Osborne Family established themselves nationwide as the people with off the hook crazy extreme Christmas lights displayed on their property in Arkansas. Who better than Disney to invite them to share their talents by setting them up at Hollywood Studios year after year. Just imagine millions of Christmas lights on the Streets of America at Hollywood Studios timed perfectly to a musical score. This event got thumbs up from us all for the coolest light show ever!

So right there ~ that’s 3 nights where we’ve got a seasonal special event to work with so you can see why planning ahead really matters!

4. Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade: Held in the afternoon, I love seeing something holiday at Animal Kingdom to give fresh perspective. In keeping with Animal Kingdom, this parade is definitely safari and savannah minded; but still very seasonal for the holidays.

So these are four great, seasonal, holiday events to keep in mind when you travel to Christmas at Walt Disney World. My family enjoyed them all as we took in the magic that surrounded us throughout the New Fantasyland Grand Opening. So tell me…

Because we vacation in FL for Thanksgiving, we’ve dashed over to Orlando OFTEN before or after Turkey Day, and have been blessed to enjoy ALL of those amazing special holiday attractions.

The Jingle Jungle parade in Animal Kingdom is my FAVORITE Disney parade of all. Seriously LOVE the music. It’s so much fun.

This year we are actually going on the Disney Dream for the Christmas Cruise. We’ll be at sea Christmas day. We’ve already arranged with both sides of the family to celebrate with them after our return and they are really excited for us and our trip. Our daughter is looking forward to seeing what Santa will bring her on the boat.

If you’ve never been to WDW during the holiday season, you are in for an AMAZING time. It’s like visiting the parks for the first time all over again. The environments all feel totally different. I can’t wait to see pictures from your trip.

    Have fun!
